Membership Recruitment (formerly known as “rush”) at Oklahoma State University is a formal, six day process in which participants will attend events at each of the eleven NPC sorority chapters on campus. Throughout the week, potential new members will get the opportunity to learn about chapter membership as well as the many exciting aspects of being in a sorority at OSU. Following is a general description of each round during Formal Membership Recruitment.

Check-in, 1st Round Events
1. Check-in/move-in to your permanent room assignment
*Important: You will have a limited amount of time to move in to your room and check in with recruitment. We suggest that you only bring what you will need for recruitment. You will have a whole week to decorate and move your other personal items into the Residence Halls after recruitment is over.

2.Check-in for recruitment by 11 a.m. Check-in will be located at the Wes Watkins CITD building, located at the corner of Hall of Fame and Washington (near the football stadium). The recruitment counselors and staff will be available to direct and assist you.

3. There will be a parent session (noon) and an orientation session for potential new members (1:30 p.m.) following registration.
*Important: Immediately following the orientation session, recruitment events will begin at the chapter houses, so you must be moved-in, dressed and ready for events by 1:30 p.m. Potential new members need to be wearing any OSU T-shirt with casual shorts, skirt, jeans or capris.

4. Panhellenic will provide you with a T-shirt to wear on the second day of Recruitment events.

1st Round Events
Events are 25 minutes long and participants will have short conversations with a few members. By the end of this day, participants will have visited all eleven chapters.

Attire for this round: recruitment t-shirt, casual shorts, skirt, jeans or capris and casual, comfortable shoes or flip-flops.

Wednesday, August 5, 2009
2nd Round Events
This is House Tour/Philanthropy Round. Potential new members will go on a tour of each chapter house and participate in a project to benefit each chapter's National or local philanthropy. Projects may include: making quilt squares to be assembled into blankets that will be given to the Stillwater Center for Domestic Violence, making cookies to donate to the Ronald McDonald House, making charm bracelets to give to the Make a Wish foundation, painting chairs for local schools, etc.

This is a good time to ask chapter members about philanthropy and community service requirements, scholarship requirements, campus involvement, intramural sports participation and financial obligations.

Suggested attire for this round: a little dressier than days one and two, but still casual, a sundress, pants, capris or a skirt and nice top, and comfortable shoes.

Thursday, August 6, 2009
3rd Round Events
This is Skit Round at Oklahoma State. Events are an hour long on this day, and the skit performances are fantastic. Participants will have conversations with chapter members about new member programs and retreats, sisterhood activities, and friendship.
*Important: Please remember to form opinions about chapters based on conversation and connections made rather than whether or not you liked the chapter's skit.

Suggested attire for this round: a little dressier again, wear a nice skirt and blouse or dress.

Friday, August 7, 2009
4th Round Events
This is the final event round of recruitment, Preference Round. This is a more serious day in which potential new members will have deeper conversations with chapter members regarding chapter values and what chapter membership means to them.

Suggested attire for this round: attire is the dressiest of the week, a dress that you would wear to church or a wedding, you don't need a formal or cocktail dress.

*Important: It will be VERY hot and you will do A LOT of walking, so keep that in mind when you are selecting clothing and shoes for the week. If you want to wear heels or dress shoes, it is a good idea to bring flip-flops or comfortable shoes to wear between chapters so your feet don't hurt. It can be quite a distance between some chapter houses.

Also, please remember that you do not need to buy a new wardrobe to participate in recruitment at Oklahoma State! Please just be comfortable with what you wear. It is much more important to focus on the sorority experience and to have fun!

Saturday, August 8, 2009
This is Bid Day! In the morning, potential new members will receive their invitation to join a sorority. New members will then go to the Panhellenic Bid Day Ceremony on Willard Lawn. Parents can go to the Student Union Ballroom at noon on Bid Day to find out what chapter has extended an invitation for membership to their daughter. Parents will be directed to the chapter houses to meet up with daughters for afternoon activities. There will be food, DJs, pictures, new member meetings, parent meetings, etc!

Attire for this day is VERY casual. The chapter you join will provide you with a t-shirt. Wear casual shorts, jeans or capris and comfortable shoes.
