Welcome parents and alumnae members!

Recommendation Letters

A letter of recommendation is written by an alumna member of an organization for the purpose of introducing a woman to a chapter. It provides a brief description of her interests, activities and personality. Although recommendations are considered in the membership selection process, a woman planning to attend Formal Fall Recruitment is not responsible
for acquiring an alumna recommendation for each chapter at Oklahoma State University. Instead, it is the individual chapter’s responsibility to secure recommendations for potential new members. It will in no way impact a woman’s recruitment process to not have a letter for each chapter.

Panhellenic recommends you contact your local
Alumnae Panhellenic or any Greek alumna you know
to request a letter of recommendation for any of our
11 chapters. The alumna will obtain the proper forms from the chapter with which she is affiliated and will send the
letter directly to her chapter. The letter of recommendation should be addressed to the attention of the recruitment
chairman. Click here for addresses.

Registering with a local alumnae panhellenic for letters of recommendation does not register a woman for
recruitment. To register, you must complete the online forms as well as the forms at the back of this book and submit
them to OSU Panhellenic.

 Panhellenic Council’s
Statement on Legacies

Most chapters are asked by their organization’s national headquarters to get to know each of its legacies participating
in recruitment. It is important to note a sorority is not obligated to offer a bid to a legacy, and a potential new member is not obligated by anyone to commit to a chapter where they are a legacy. In some cases, chapters may release legacies so those young women will not have false hopes and, if they desire, can pursue other sorority chapters. In addition, legacies may release a chapter if they feel it is not the right fit.

Please remember the ultimate decision to join a chapter rests with the potential new member. The potential new member
should not make a decision or be under pressure based on her legacy chapter affiliation. The potential new member
should make a choice based on where she is most comfortable, not on the experience of another individual.
